Orange Beach Alabama had
several days of Offshore Powerboat Racing when the World Championship Races were held here
this November.

It was a very exciting race that spanned
several days with many different classes. Adding to the excitement was the spinning and
sinking of one of the boats. Photos below.

These incredible roaring boats had to contend
with 10 ft. swells that were spaced too far apart to jump from ridge to ridge, so the
rough water took it's toll on several boats.
Orange Beach had incredible weather for this
event--sunny days averaging about 10 degrees above normal for this time of the year.

Programs were available on Orange Beach.
The race was delayed about one hour on Sunday
due to the rough water, but it was no big deal since lounging about the perfect sunny,
swim suit weather was heavenly anyway.
The Wet Docks were located on Alabama Point.
Two huge cranes raised and lowered the boats from the trailers into the water. The Lucas
boat is being placed on it's trailer in this shot.

Here is a photo of that same boat racing in
the Gulf of Mexico

This is Gary Nichol's "Live Bait"
boat being lifted by the crane--our home town hero for bringing Offshore Powerboat Racing
to Orange Beach Alabama

Plenty of helicopters were on hand to spot the
boats.

One of the power boats in Sunday's Races hit
the water 'wrong' spun a couple of times and ended up SINKING ! It was not very
sunny by late afternoon, so the photos were difficult to get.

Here you can see other boats racing past the sinking yellow boat
with is sticking up out of the water right of center.

The last little bit of the front tip of the boat is just above
the black arrow.

Finally after the races ended, the boat was towed with great
difficulty back to the Wet Dock area. This happened right in front of Silver Beach and
Enclave Condos and the spectators on Orange Beach.

We look forward to more exciting Offshore Powerboat Racing here
on our bit of paradise on the Gulf Coast.
